Mental Health Awareness Month: Give Today!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention was founded in 1987, when a small group of families impacted by suicide banded together with researchers eager to learn more about what can be done to save lives. Today, AFSP is the largest private funder of suicide prevention research, with 73 chapters across the United States, offering education, advocacy and loss support. Making a gift of $19.87 shows you are reflective of our past and excited about our future!
This May, we are launching a month-long campaign to raise 1 million dollars, wanting folks to give a special gift of $135 to reach our goal. Why $135? Because 135 people are affected to some degree by every person lost to suicide. This May and beyond, let’s unite for a common cause that affects us all: building resilience for our own mental health, and the mental health of our communities. Because we’re all in this together.

According to the CDC's data on suicide risk within occupational groups, the construction and extraction industries were found to have the highest rate of suicide in the United States. The goal of our Construction Hike for Hope initiative is to improve the mental health of construction workers through effective suicide prevention education, intervention and postvention strategies to encourage, equip and empower mental health champions in the workforce.
Join AFSP and leaders in the construction industry for an upcoming Construction Hike for Hope in your community.
